The trees we plant, and the landscapes we nurture and protect for wildlife to enjoy and feel safe in, and to prevent soil erosion, is our gift to future generations. Even in cities we can take part in creating a greener, healthier environment.

Hello Friends,

Happy New Year 2025! May many wonderful things happen for you this year!

I’m so excited to be celebrating 16 years of Priscillawoolworth.com. What started off as an Eco Friendly General Store has grown and evolved into this Newsletter,

the PW Store and Studio online, The Rabbit Hole and currently in a deep slumber, River’s Edge Farm, a climate resilient mini farm.

Welcome to the first issue of the New Year and welcome all new subscribers and a big thank you to all paid subscribers. In this issue, learn more about Green Tea; the brilliant Falling Fruit; a school in India where Kids bring Plastic Waste to School; a Call to Action; what I’ve been Watching and Listening to over the past month and a Movie I recommend. Also, don’t miss some great news which you will find at the very end of this issue! Onwards!

#1- Green Tea

Did you know that Green Tea, black tea and white tea come from the same plant, though the teas are not the same. Green Tea is made by slightly steaming freshly cut leaves, while black tea is fermented. Compared to Green Tea, black tea has lower amounts of catechins and more caffeine. The leaves used to prepare white tea are picked at a less mature stage compared to Green Tea. While Green Tea and white tea tend to provide comparable amounts of catechins, white tea tends to have less caffeine and is less likely to be contaminated with lead.

To brew Green Tea, steep Green Tea leaves in a tea ball or mesh strainer in recently boiled water for 3 to 5 minutes. This duration of brewing allows a significant amount of EGCG to go into the water while avoiding bitter-tasting tea. After brewing, let tea cool to a comfortable temperature before drinking. Drinking hot tea has been associated with an increased risk of both esophageal and gastric cancer.

Did you know that Green Tea contains polyphenolic compounds called catechins , which contain antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, antitumorigenic and antimicrobial properties, which can inhibit cancer cell activity and help boost immunity.

Green Tea health benefits are a modest reduction in LDL cholesterol, reduced growth of uterine fibroids and associations with lower risks of cardiovascular disease, certain cancers and type 2 diabetes.

When comparing Green Tea products, it is helpful to look for ones that state the amount of EGCG or catechins, which vary greatly among products.
