“Whoever controls the seeds controls the food supply,” ~ attributed to Vandana Shiva
Hello friends,
Spring is almost here, a season I love—the anticipation of new growth and blossoms, the first flowers and returning bees, birdsong in the morning, and the cheerful arrival of daffodils. It’s a season full of possibility, and seeds carry the promise of all of it.
This issue is a love letter to seeds.
You’ll learn about the six kinds of seeds I eat (almost) every day and then others that I save from the garden (many!). This year, quite a few of the seeds I’ve grown and collected are available in my online store and in The Rabbit Hole, my onsite tiny shop near Hudson, New York.
In this issue, I share the fascinating story of a long-running seed experiment that continues to this day. The Cabinet of Natural Treasures features a remarkable seed with its own superpowers, and I leave you with two films about a delightful British farmer living in France who leads a wonderfully self-sufficient life—saving his own seeds, of course.
Onwards!
